My family is rooted in the region of Kikuchi in Kumamoto but our family temple located in Yamaga which is a next to Kikuchi.  We had an occasion to visit there and I happened to find a wonderful surprise, the farmer's market.  

Michinoeki is known as so-called local farmers' market everywhere in Japan.  Yet they were never good enough for me as quality and the price of the products except for this one.  I believe that we went in in good time on Saturday morning.

「JA鹿本ファーマーズマーケット」地元ネタです。熊本は農業が第一産業なので、野菜の安さや質の良さは全国的にも優れているとは思うが、今回本当に感動する田舎のマーケットを発見した。阿蘇や菊池方面にはいくつかの道の駅があるが、そこまで安くもないという印象で、あまり満足していなかった。

今回は山鹿に行く用事があり、たまたま見つけたこのマーケットは野菜の量、質、値段ともに素晴らしかった。珍しい野菜もあって楽しい。バジルは袋一杯に入っていて１００円！牛、鶏の肉類もとても質がよいし、大豆や肉類の加工品も豊富だが、全て山鹿や鹿本の地元で作られているもののみ販売されていた。お惣菜やお漬け物も美味しかった。地元の人でかなり混雑していたが、午前中に行けたのがよかった。熊本市内からは高速で直ぐなので、時々買い出しに行くのもよいかもしれない。
